DATA CENTER BAN

A rendering of a proposed data center planned for Coachella has since been put on hold after community members expressed outrage at several public meetings.
Indio officials are moving to permanently ban data centers from the city over concerns that the massive tech facilities would drain the desert’s limited water supply, strain the electrical grid, and worsen local air quality. The city’s Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to recommend a ban on data centers, setting up a final vote by the City Council next month.

The Palm Desert City Council adopted a $112 million General Fund budget for fiscal year 2027 on Thursday, with higher spending driven by public safety and major infrastructure projects. Councilmembers questioned a new $1.5 million sheriff’s contingency fund and pushed staff to make future budget documents more transparent and accessible.

The Palm Springs City Council on Wednesday directed staff to start the process of extending hours at the Palm Springs Access Center during the summer months to provide some relief from heat for people experiencing homelessness.

According to the latest Greater Palm Springs Realtors Desert Housing Report, the median price for an average-sized detached home in Palm Desert fell 2.9% to $711,200 compared to the year before while attached home prices fell 2.4% to $514,200.
