Wayne Olson resigned from his position as chief economic development officer in Palm Springs this week.

Palm Springs Chief Economic Development Officer Wayne Olson resigned Monday, five days after the City Council tabled a vote on a consulting contract amendment he had argued was essential to putting the city’s economic development agenda into action.

COUNCIL PUMPS BRAKES

The Indio City Council voted Wednesday to extend its moratorium on new gas stations through June 3, 2027, declining to introduce a permanent zoning ordinance that city staff and the Planning Commission had prepared for that night’s meeting. The existing moratorium was set to expire Thursday.

The Palm Desert City Council voted recently to pursue a new sponsorship agreement with Palm Springs Life that would increase the city's annual contribution to two signature El Paseo events from $300,000 to $450,000 — a 50% increase — while the events' producer warned that without more funding, the scope of both festivals will be cut.

EVENING ACCESS

Indio will work to immediately extend public restroom hours at city parks following complaints that facilities are being locked up to four hours before evening sports leagues and family activities wrap up.
