DATA CENTERS DEBATE

The Indio Sustainability Commission took up the question of large-scale data centers Monday, discussing a potential policy recommendation to the City Council as facilities proposed for Coachella and nearby Imperial County added new urgency to the issue.

The Palm Desert City Council voted 4-0 Thursday to terminate a construction agreement with Tilden Coil Construction for the new city library after the contractor's cost estimate came in far higher than the city expected. The city will immediately open a new proposal period.

The Palm Desert Architectural Review Commission voted 4-0 Tuesday to approve an unpermitted backyard pickleball court near Marrakesh Country Club, over the objections of neighbors who argued the sport's sharp, popping sounds are more disruptive than the city's noise standards can capture.
