MAYOR FORUMS BEGIN
The sentiment in the room Wednesday evening was evenly split on the issue of an elected mayor in Palm Springs, with several speaker mentioning they were still on the fence.
More than 100 people packed the Mizell Center on Wednesday for the first of seven public meetings the city is holding on whether Palm Springs should move from its rotating mayor system to a directly elected mayor.

COMMISSION HITS PAUSE

The Indio Planning Commission voted 4-1 late Wednesday to postpone action on a proposed ordinance that would create permit requirements for weddings, parties and other large gatherings in residential neighborhoods, following hours of deliberation and public testimony from residents and event-venue operators.

Candidates are beginning to line up for Palm Desert’s District 4 and 5 City Council races, an election that will complete the city’s transition to five single-member council districts.

BAN PLAN ADVANCES

The Indio City Council voted unanimously earlier this month to extend the city’s moratorium on data centers for 90 days and direct staff to draft a permanent ban on the facilities in all zoning districts.
