CARE SHORTAGE

Residents of Indio and Coachella say the need for a specialist often leads them to drive two hours to find care.
The Desert Healthcare District and Foundation is finalizing a five-year plan with a goal to bring more doctors and medical facilities to the Eastern Coachella Valley, following months of public meetings and online surveys where residents described a healthcare system that is failing to meet their basic needs. The new strategy was built using input from hundreds of locals who said they are tired of waiting months for appointments or driving hours for care.
