FESTIVAL FLASHBACK

Local archivists are offering a window to the past for attendees of this year’s Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival. Deserted Films will debut an exhibition of vintage home movies starting Feb. 13, featuring footage captured in the Coachella Valley between 1948 and 1974.

The Desert Willow Westin timeshare project, first approved nearly 30 years ago, got more time to finish this week after the Palm Desert Planning Commission approved a six-month extension of its development agreement to Aug. 27.

WALKING MAN REMEMBERED

Nearly 100 neighbors gathered to walk a mile from Ricardo Marano’s Palm Springs condominium complex to Ruth Hardy Park, honoring the 56-year-old known as “The Walking Man.” A familiar sight on city streets, Marano walked for hours each day in all weather and became a well-known and comforting presence to residents.

PATH FUNDED

The Coachella Valley Association of Governments approved $20 million in new funding for the nine-mile Arts and Music Line cycling path Monday, moving the project closer to construction and adding to nearly $36.5 million secured previously for the CV Link connection.

PRESERVATION PUSH

The Palm Springs Historic Site Preservation Board voted to recommend landmark status for the Edmund Goulding Residence on Ridge Road, citing its 1928 construction during the city’s first building boom and its significance to Palm Springs’ early resort-era development.
