The Palm Desert City Council voted 5-0 Thursday to table a resolution asking Southern California Edison to minimize planned outages during high-temperature summer months, instead directing staff to bring back a revised version at the November meeting.

Palm Springs City Manager Scott Stiles notified City Hall staff Tuesday that he plans to retire effective Nov. 1. Stiles sent the announcement in an email to colleagues and fellow city employees just after informing City Council members.

The Indio Planning Commission voted on Thursday to approve a 240-unit multifamily apartment project south of Avenue 42 and west of Jefferson Street. The Avenue 42 Apartments will include 237 income-restricted affordable units and three manager units in eight three-story buildings.

A yearslong and much-stalled effort to bring a hotel to the northwest corner of Avenida Caballeros and East Amado Road is yet again falling behind schedule, according to a report presented to the Palm Springs City Council on Wednesday.

Palm Desert will move forward with conceptual design work for a recreation of a historic city entry sign designed by noted desert architect William F. Cody, using up to $30,000 in grant funding from the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation.
