The Palm Springs City Council approved an urgency ordinance on Wednesday that places a temporary ban on data centers, becoming the latest Coachella Valley city to prohibit new construction of the fast-growing and controversial facilities.

The Palm Desert Architectural Review Commission voted Tuesday to continue its review of a proposal to convert a former church at 72700 Fred Waring Drive into a medical office building, directing the applicant to revise several design elements before returning to the commission.

The Indio Planning Commission voted Wednesday to recommend City Council approval of a 7 Brew drive-through coffee shop on Highway 111, after negotiating a reduction in the size of the restaurant’s largest sign.

FIRE STATION UPGRADES
Fire station 33 (top) will be renovated and fire station 71 (bottom) will be demolished and rebuilt during a two-year project.
The Palm Desert City Council voted 5-0 at its last regular meeting to award a task order to Accenture LLP for construction management services on the renovation of Fire Station 33 and the demolition and reconstruction of Fire Station 71, and to approve using the former Sheriff’s substation as a temporary fire station during the roughly two-year project.
